What we do at Blykalla
Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company at the forefront of the nuclear industry, pioneering the development of small modular reactors that provide clean, safe, and reliable energy. Thanks to lead-cooling, we achieve high safety in a very compact format, allowing for a simple and cost-effective design that can be mass-produced. Our unique reactor design will provide safe and green baseload energy that perfectly complements solar and wind power.
What you’ll get to do
As Senior Maintenance Engineer, you will help define how our LFR plants are kept reliable, available, and maintainable across their full lifecycle. The role combines hands-on technical work with longer-term planning, and you will help ensure that lessons from Operating Experience — both internal and from the wider nuclear industry — are systematically reflected in our maintenance program.
From Maintenance Strategy to Reliable Execution
Shape the maintenance strategy for the LFR plant, covering preventive, predictive, and corrective approaches aligned with reliability and availability targets
Carry out Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) studies to help identify critical equipment and inform maintenance task selection
Build maintenance task lists, intervals, and procedures using structured methods such as RCM, FMEA, and condition-based monitoring
Plan outage scope, sequencing, and durations together with operations, ISI, and supply chain colleagues
Maintainability by Design & Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Contribute maintainability input into design (DfM) — reviewing layouts, access, handling routes, and component selection so servicing can be done safely in a lead-cooled environment
Shape the spare parts strategy, obsolescence management, and the tooling needed for maintenance activities
Work alongside the ISI lead to keep inspection and maintenance programs integrated
Support the development of CMMS structure, asset organization, and maintenance KPIs
Operating Experience, Continuous Improvement & Safety Case
Set up ways of working for collecting and applying Operating Experience — drawing on internal data, peer operators, and IAEA / WANO / INPO networks — and translate findings into concrete updates to tasks, intervals, and procedures
Use Operating Experience, failure data, and condition monitoring trends to improve the program over time and support root cause investigations
Contribute to safety case documentation related to maintenance, ageing management, and human factors
Who’ll you’ll get to work with
We are looking for a (Senior) Maintenance Engineer who will help us build a maintenance philosophy that connects reliability targets, preventive and predictive strategies, and outage planning into a coherent and traceable program — while feeding maintainability requirements back into design.
In this role, you will work together with colleagues across engineering, operations, and design to ensure that what we build today can be safely and efficiently maintained tomorrow.
Where This Role Can Take You
You will play a meaningful part in how our LFR plants are operated and sustained, from first-of-a-kind through fleet deployment. As the maintenance organization grows, there will be opportunities to take on broader functional or team responsibilities, depending on your interests and strengths.
Who you are
You enjoy working at the intersection of engineering disciplines, and you are comfortable moving between the field, design reviews, and thoughtful study work. You appreciate structured thinking, but you also recognize that good maintenance programs are shaped by the people who run them - so you value clear communication, listening to operations colleagues, and building shared understanding across teams. You bring technical depth and a collaborative approach to translating operational realities into clear requirements for design and procurement.
We believe you have:
A relevant engineering degree (mechanical, nuclear, systems engineering, or similar)
5+ years of experience in maintenance, plant, or reliability engineering — ideally in nuclear, oil & gas, chemical process, or another regulated heavy industry
Practical experience with RAM studies and methods such as RCM, FMEA/FMECA, and criticality assessment
Experience using Operating Experience and failure data to refine maintenance strategies
Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and quality assurance processes (e.g. ASME, IAEA, ISO 55000-series, or equivalent)
Experience contributing to plant outages or major maintenance campaigns
A feel for how maintainability requirements shape mechanical design
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines
Fluency in English; Swedish is an advantage
If you are not sure that you are 100% qualified but are up to the challenge, we encourage you to apply.
Location
The position is based in Stockholm, with travel to test sites and partners expected.
